What will Dutton cut? How much will you pay?

Cuts

Peter Dutton has already committed to cutting at least $350 billion from the services Australians rely on. And he has to cut even deeper to pay for his $600 billion nuclear power scheme.

Peter Dutton has promised to cut – he just won’t say what he’ll cut.

But we know what he cut when he was Health Minister – he cut Medicare.

And we know what he’s opposed as Liberal Leader – including tax cuts, Urgent Care Clinics, energy bill relief and cheaper medicines.

So what essential services will Peter Dutton cut? He’ll cut Medicare again. He’ll close down Urgent Care Clinics. He’ll make energy bills more expensive. He’ll increase the cost of medicines. And he’ll stop people from getting a break on their HECS debts.

Here’s what’s on Peter Dutton’s chopping block

Peter Dutton will cut Medicare and end bulk billing as we know it.

When he was Tony Abbott’s Health Minister, Peter Dutton froze the Medicare rebate and made it more expensive to visit a doctor. He planned to increase the cost of PBS medicines and charge people for emergency room visits. He’ll cut Medicare again if he’s Prime Minister.

Peter Dutton will cut Labor’s Medicare Urgent Care Clinics – forcing them to close.

Labor’s Urgent Care Clinics provide fully bulk billed treatment for urgent but non-threatening life conditions. They’ve saved more than one million Australians a trip to the emergency department. But the Liberals have called Urgent Care Clinics “wasteful spending”, and Peter Dutton’s cuts will mean your local Urgent Care Clinic will be forced to close.

Peter Dutton will cut PBS benefits – jacking up the cost of medicines.

Labor’s reforms to the PBS have delivered $165 million in savings for Australians when they get their prescription filled. But Peter Dutton voted against these savings – and he’ll claw them back if he’s Prime Minister, just like he tried to increase the cost of PBS medicines when he was Tony Abbott’s Health Minister.

Peter Dutton will cut Labor’s energy bill relief for every household – which will make your power bills more expensive.

Labor’s direct energy bill relief is taking $450 off household power bills. Peter Dutton voted against energy bill relief – and he’s even called it a “Ponzi scheme”.

Peter Dutton will cut Labor’s funding to reduce student HECS debts – which means student debt will be higher.

Labor is slashing 20% off all HECS debt – giving a break to more than three million Australians with student debt. For someone with a HECS debt of $50,000, it means wiping $10,000 from your debt. But Peter Dutton tried to block it – and he’ll increase student debt if he’s Prime Minister.

Peter Dutton will cut Free TAFE – preventing thousands of young Australians from getting a skill and a job.

Australians have enrolled in around 600,000 Free TAFE courses thanks to Labor – gaining skills in aged care, child care, technology and construction. But the Liberals tried to block it and said people wouldn’t “value it” if it was free. If Peter Dutton is Prime Minister, Free TAFE will be finished.

Peter Dutton will cut schools and hospitals.

When Peter Dutton was Tony Abbott’s Health Minister, he cut $50 billion from public hospitals across the country, putting Australians’ health at risk. To pay for his $600 billion nuclear power reactors, Dutton will cut schools and hospitals, just like the Liberals did last time.

Peter Dutton will cut Australian jobs and wages.

Peter Dutton has promised to cut at least 40,000 jobs in suburbs and regions across the country – and we know that’s just the start. Veterans Affairs, the National Emergency Management Agency, Centrelink, the NDIS – nothing is safe. He wants to end work from home and the right to disconnect, because he’s only ok with people working from home if they’re not getting paid. He also tried to block Labor’s new laws for better wages.

Peter Dutton will cut Labor’s funding for more housing.

Peter Dutton has promised to cut funding for at least 110,000 homes – and he won’t build a single new home.

Peter Dutton will cut child care rebates.

Labor has increased subsidies to make child care cheaper for more than one million families. The Liberals voted against our plan to guarantee three days a week of child care – and if Peter Dutton becomes Prime Minister, child care will cost more.
